Energy bites are the perfect quick and healthy snack during pregnancy and postpartum. Made from a handful of staple pantry ingredients, these quick-to-throw together bites are delicious and nutrient-dense. They are also great for breastfeeding moms, as oats are known to help with milk supply. Nutrition powerhouse’s flax, hemp hearts and chia seeds provide a boost of fibre and omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for baby’s brain development. And who doesn’t love dark chocolate and peanut butter?
Snack
Ingredients
1 1/4 cup
Rolled Oats
3/4 cup
Peanut Butter
1/2 cup
Dark Chocolate Chips
2 Tbsp
Hemp Hearts
2 Tbsp
Chia Seed
2 Tbsp
Ground Flax
1/4 cup
Maple Syrup
1 tsp
Vanilla
1/4 tsp
Sea Salt
Instructions
1
Add ingredients to a large bowl and mix thoroughly to combine.
2
Chill mixture in the fridge for 30 minutes.
3
Once chilled, form mixture into balls. If your mixture is somewhat dry and crumbly, I suggest wetting your hands with water or greasing them with coconut oil before forming each ball to help keep the mixture together. If necessary, add additional peanut butter to help form mix into balls.
4
Store energy bites in a well-sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 1 month.
5
Substitutions: Substitute nut butter of your choice for peanut butter. Almond or cashew butter would work well! • Swap sunflower butter or tahini for peanut butter if nut free. Easily omit chia seeds, hemp hearts or sunflower seeds without adjustment to the recipe if desired. Swap honey, agave or coconut nectar for maple syrup if desired.
