Paleo is a type of diet based on eating similar to how our ancestors ate during the Paleolithic era - hence the name. The paleo diet promotes foods common to the hunger-gather lifestyle and limits foods that became popular due to the emergence of farming. The diet aims to return to foods that are more “genetically matched” to us biologically. The creator of the diet, Walkter Voegtlin, believed that farming changed what people ate, and this rapid change in diet outpaced our body’s ability to adapt. This diet has been used to promote general health and can be beneficial to those with type-2 diabetes and anyone at risk for cardiovascular disease.
