Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver
NAFLD is the most common form of liver disease. It is characterized by an abnormal build-up of fat in the liver. It is normal for the liver to contain some fat; however, if more than 5-10% of the liver’s weight is fat, it is considered a fatty liver. A fatty liver may lead to excess inflammation and swelling, leading to scarring of the liver, also known as cirrhosis. Cirrhosis can lead to liver failure and cancer. The good news is, the liver can regenerate itself, unlike any other organ. It can be up to 80% damaged and still recover. Diet and lifestyle are essential to supporting liver regeneration.
