Endometriosis is a condition in which cells from the lining of the uterus (endometrium) appear and flourish outside the uterine cavity. Often this abnormal cell growth occurs on the uterus, fallopian tubes, bladder, bowels, perineum, and pelvic floor. However, in rarer cases, it can happen in any part of the body. Regardless of the location of these cells, they remain influenced by hormonal changes. Like the uterine lining, these cells build tissue each month, then break down and bleed. This process often triggers excess inflammation, leading to incapacitating pain prior to and during menses. Although the exact cause of endometriosis is unknown, the natural approach to treatment involves reducing inflammation, supporting the immune system, and balancing hormones.
