Asthma is a lung condition that obstructs the airways. It is an overreaction of the immune system that causes the narrowing and swelling of airways and excess mucus production. This can make breathing difficult and can even trigger an asthma attack. An asthma attack impedes the outward passage of air, resulting from spasms in the bronchi (small airways in the lungs). There are two primary forms of asthma, allergic and nonallergic. Factors that trigger allergic asthma include, but are not limited to, animal danger, pollutants, food additives, dust mites, seafood, dairy, nuts, mould and tobacco smoke. Nonallergic asthma triggers include but are not limited to anxiety, adrenal disorders, temperature changes, exercise, low blood sugar and stress. Eating a diet that helps reduce inflammation and aid the immune system is essential to supporting asthma.
